OVERVIEW OF TAI CHI CH'UAN AND QIGONG.

Chi (Qi) is the energy or natural force which fills the universe, humans require Chi to exist.  This is the basis of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

TAI CHI CH’UAN (Taijiquan), translated as “Supreme Ultimate Fist”, is a traditional Chinese Internal Martial Art.

As a Health Exercise, the Yang Style 24 Step Beijing/Peking Form (Simplified), is the most popular.

The Tai Chi Form is a series of slow, flowing, non impact movements, performed with a relaxed posture and coordinated breath.  Balancing, enhancing and controlling the Chi, for a healthy mind and body.

QIGONG, is the study of Chi, which takes a long time and a lot of effort.

The basic Qigong exercises are easier to learn than the Tai Chi Form and are performed either seated or stood, making it more accessible for people of all ages and abilities.

The health benefits are usually experienced quicker, than those practising the Tai Chi Form.

The aim of the practice, is to relax the body, regulate the breath and calm the mind, this will enable the Chi within the body to balance and enhance, promoting both physical and mental wellbeing.

SIMON MACCORMACK

I have studied Tai Chi Ch’uan and Qigong for over 30 years.

Teaching for Health, whilst maintaining the Martial Principles and Applications of the Art.

I have had the opportunity to work in conjunction with Somerset and East Devon County Council, Supported Living and Somerset Social Services, Adults with Learning Difficulties.

Teaching Qigong to Primary School children, 7-11 years old and Retirement Homes.

My classes aim to be all inclusive, offering an environment which is social and enjoyable, promoting health, relaxation and fun.

Students are from a wide age range, my oldest regular attending student is 93 years old, of varying abilities and experience, some with mobility issues and underlying health conditions.

Everyone is encouraged to progress at their own speed.

Through my own practice and the experiences of my students, Tai Chi and Qigong offers an accessible form of exercise to everyone, providing both physical and emotional benefits and enhancing general well being.

I currently hold classes in 6 venues, across Somerset, Devon and Dorset.

Registered with the TCUGB (The Tai Chi Union for Great Britain) and fully insured.

WHAT THE STUDENTS SAY...

Pete.

I have been attending Simon’s Tai Chi classes now for 18 months.  I have found them very beneficial for my overall health, particularly in terms of balance, posture and flexibility.  I also find Simon’s lessons energising, as well as relaxing and enjoy both the Qigong exercises and also studying the Form itself.  They are always - Fun!
